A male brow lift is a facial plastic surgery technique used to bring the position of the brows up to a more youthful level. Anyone who has brow droop may benefit from a brow lift. A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, can also improve the youthfulness of the eyelids, particularly the lateral hooding that is difficult to correct with upper and lower eyelid surgery alone.
What Is Different About the Male Brow?
The male brow should follow the contours of the supraorbital rim, while the female brow is higher and more arched. In addition to the shape and height of the brow, patterns of male pattern baldness may limit some of the procedures used in men. Dr. Hughes will select the type of brow lift that meets your demands, but one that does not create large visible scars.

Male Forehead-Lift Options
Dr. Hughes performs the full spectrum of forehead-lift techniques available. The coronal brow lift, the endoscopic brow lift, the temporal brow lift, and the direct brow lift all have unique benefits for the right patient. Dr. Hughes will help you choose the one that is right for you during your consultation.
Coronal Brow Lift: The coronal brow lift perhaps provides the greatest longevity for maintaining brow position. While it does create a greater scar burden, the scar is hidden within the hairline. Although alopecia (hair loss) can occur at the scar, this hair loss is technique and surgeon dependent, and Dr. Hughes has not noticed this in his patients. This is only appropriate in male patients with a full head of hair.
Endoscopic Brow Lift: The endoscopic brow lift creates three small scars, usually within the hairline, but no skin is removed. The brows are anchored at their new position to the underlying bone. This technique is appropriate for men requiring a brow lift.
Temporal Brow Lift: The temporal brow lift works well for lateral hooding of the brow, but it does not raise the entire brow, and the glabella musculature and forehead wrinkles cannot be addressed through this maneuver. The incision is hidden within the hairline as well and is only a few centimeters. This is generally not useful in male patients.
Direct Brow Lift: The direct brow lift can be used in a patient with very deep forehead wrinkles. This may also be appropriate in older male brow-lift candidates.
Internal Brow Pexy: An internal brow pexy can be performed at the same time as an upper eyelid surgery without a visible scar. It can only elevate the brow by about 2 mm and probably has the least longevity of the methods mentioned above. However, 2 mm may be the right amount of lift in a lot of patients, and the internal brow pexy can be used to correct brow asymmetry as well. This can also be used in male patients.
The brow lift can be combined with upper and lower blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) and/or a face and neck lift to improve overall facial aesthetics as well as reduce the signs of facial aging.
Male Brow Lift Recovery
After the male brow lift, patients will need to return home and recover. During this, patients should follow Dr. Hughes’ post-surgical care directions closely in order to minimize risk of complications.
The exact details of the recovery process will depend on the type of brow lift performed. Less-invasive techniques will require less recovery time and will be more comfortable. Generally, a degree of swelling and bruising will be present in the surgical area for a time, and painkillers may be prescribed for patient comfort.
