TOP PLASTIC SURGEON

Neck Lift in Los Angeles and Beverly Hills, CA

With a neck lift, Los Angeles patients can address issues like drooping neck skin, harsh vertical platysmal neck bands, excess neck fat, a double chin, and a turkey-wattle neck. This neck plastic surgery procedure involves removal of excess skin and fat, along with tightening of sagging skin and neck muscles.

Dr. Hughes has performed numerous neck lifts, and his incision techniques make it very difficult to determine if anything has been done. Results are always natural and always tailored to meet the needs of the individual, whether they hail from Los Angeles or Boston, Beverly Hills or Pittsburgh.

Combination Procedures

Patients often combine their neck lift with a lower facelift to achieve more comprehensive facial revitalization. This procedure is called a lower face/neck lift. For even more comprehensive improvement, Dr. Hughes may also recommend facial procedures like a brow lift or upper and lower eyelid surgery (or upper and lower blepharoplasties).

In some cases, patients prefer to combine a neck lift with non-surgical facial rejuvenation. To address facial wrinkles, Dr. Hughes offers fillers, which are temporary, and facial fat grafting, which is largely permanent.

Preparing For Neck Lift Surgery

For four weeks before the neck contouring procedure, smokers will need to quit smoking. They will need to avoid smoking during the recovery process as well. Smoking negatively affects skin health and can lead to complications, along with a prolonged healing period.

Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, and any other NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). These can cause bleeding complications during surgery. Certain herbal supplements can also cause this issue and must be avoided.

On the day before your neck lift, do not eat or drink anything after midnight. It is permissible to use a small amount of water to rinse after brushing your teeth.

On the day of surgery, it is necessary to wear loose-fitting clothing that does not need to be pulled over your head.

The Neck Lift Procedure

At the start of a neck lift procedure, either general anesthesia or intravenous sedation is administered for patient comfort. Next, Dr. Hughes makes small hidden incisions behind the ear and/or below the chin.

Fat is removed using liposuction, in which a cannula is inserted and medical suction is applied. Excess skin is trimmed away using a scalpel. The sagging platysma muscles are rejoined and tightened using internal sutures.

The skin is redraped over the neck’s new contours. Finally, the incisions are closed using skin adhesives or stitches.

Neck Lift Recovery

Dr. Hughes will advise you during your consultation regarding post-surgical care directions. You will need to follow these directions closely while healing in order to ensure ideal results and a comfortable recovery process.

Swelling and bruising will be present in the neck area for a time. To help control these issues, make sure to always keep your head elevated during healing, even overnight. Cold compresses can also aid in reduction of swelling.

You must stay home from work for a time, and rest is vital. Avoid physically strenuous activities like exercise and heavy lifting until cleared to resume them.

You will need to come in for follow-up appointments with Dr. Hughes to have stitches removed. Dr. Hughes will check on the progress of your healing to ensure that no complications have occurred.
