For many decades, breast augmentation has been sought by women to improve the size and shape of breasts. Breast augmentation surgery with implants remains one of the most popular procedures performed in the United States and worldwide. However, some women do not like the idea of a foreign material being placed within the body. For the many women out there who are looking to increase the size of their breasts but are hesitant to use implants, fat grafting or fat transfer offers an exciting new option. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Kenneth Hughes has an office located in Los Angeles and has a great deal of experience with both fat grafting techniques and traditional breast augmentations.
Breast fat grafting or breast fat transfer is an implant-free procedure that involves tiny incisions instead of the usual incision used for breast implant placement. The first part of the surgery involves liposuction of the abdomen, sides, back, thighs, or arms. The second part of the surgery involves the transfer of that fat through one tiny incision under each breast.
Dr. Hughes performs this surgery as an outpatient procedure. One benefit of the procedure is that it uses liposuction to contour areas of the body. The excess fat removed is then injected into the breasts to provide volume.
Therefore, the liposuction and breast fat grafting procedure is essentially slimming other areas of the body while improving the breast shape and size. The fat grafting procedure can only increase the breast cup size about 3/4 cup. Those patients who are desiring more volume or enhancement to the breasts, breast augmentation with breast implants should be considered.
